ABOUT

It all started with an accidental purchase of a wedding crafts magazine in 2002. Catherine wasn't getting married nor anyone she knew but the magazine was intriguing and so Catherine decided to try out the project entitled 'Make a Tiara'. After some time with plastic beads and florist wire a tiara was constructed. It wasn't the best tiara but it was the beginning of nearly two decades of Sweet Chestnut Designs.
During the first seven years Catherine specialised in beautiful crystal tiaras and jewellery, going on to win the first and prestigeous VOWS Award for Bridal Accessories in Scotland. A couple of years later it was time to reinvent and so Catherine studied silversmithing at the iconic Glasgow School of Art this led to a different style of work which is simpler and inspired by celtic, medieval and elven styles.
In 2018 Catherine was chosen by The Guardian Newspaper in London to take part in the Guardian Doers Scheme for business. Mentored and advised by both Touker Suleyman of Dragons Den and Guardian business advisors along with being featured in the newspaper over several weeks catapulted Sweet Chestnut Designs into its own orbit of the bridal and costume worlds.
Over the years Sweet Chestnut Designs has featured in many bridal publications, costume photoshoots and tv productions as well as ballet and opera productions all over the world and every day we send our tiaras and circlets to brides in almost every land inlcuding the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Scandinavia, to name but a few.
